The below are what we regularly use for Japanese groceries.
1. Weee (or SayWeee): Home delivery Asian grocery store. Variety of Asian groceries including fresh produce and items we do not or rarely see elsewhere such as “ginko-nuts”, fresh quail eggs, high quality fresh mushrooms such as shiitake, enoki, wood ear, maitake, shimeji etc. All other standard Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Indian) groceries are available. We use this place regularly and it made most impact to our ability to get Japanese/Asian groceries).
2. Vital choice: For fish such as Chilean sea bass and Keta “Ikura” salmon roe. The salmon roe is the best here. Other places have smaller salmon roe or previously marinated variety.
3. Catalina offshore products: Sashimi fish, ikura, amaebi, uni (used to be our main source of sashimi fish and uni but in general we like “Maruhide” for uni and we get sashimi from“Riviera food Club” more often recently).
4. Maruhide marine products: Uni and Uni shuto. They have “ensui uni” fresh uni in sea (salted) water.
5. Riviera Seafood Club: smaller portions of sashimi fish, scallop and ama (or bottan)-ebi.
6. Yama Seafood: Located in New York supplying sashimi-grade fish to restaurants and sushi bars. We ordered several tuna items. One advantage for us is that ground delivery is essentially next day delivery. Quality appears good but we need to try more items.
7. Suzuki Farm: Japanese vegetable farm located in Delaware. Japanese vegetable we got from them is great. We are delighted that we can get fresh Japanese cucumber, eggplant including “Mizu-nasu”, Japanese citrus including fresh yuzu and sudachi. Japanese pepper tree young leaves called “Kinome” was also delightful.
8. Great-Alaska-seafood: Salmon, cod, sable fish, octopus legs and also tuna sashimi (not always available) You need to buy larger quantities. Quality for tuna sashimi may not be always top notch.
9. Regalis : Hotaru ika, tuna sashimi and other exotic items but very expensive and in large quantity (mostly catering to restaurants).
10. The rice factory: This is a great place to get quality Japanese rice (they mill whole grain rice to order). They carry “branded” Japanese rice. We like Hokkaido “Yume Pirika” rice best. Also some Japanese grocery items
11. Japanese Taste: “Hoshigaki”, dried “kanpyo” and other items, comes directly from Japan
Other on-line stores we use occasionally for specialized food items
12. D’artagnan: specialized meat such as duck, pork. lamb.
13. Oregon mushroom: mostly for matsutake mushroom
14. Foraged: Matsutake and fiddle head fern. You get items from individual foragers.
15. Wasabi store: Oregon coast wasabi: Fresh wasabi rhizome and other wasabi products
